WHAT IS OBESITY?
Obesity is an abnormal condition of the body characterized by an excess of body fat.

The contributory causes of obesity includes many factors, which are: over eating; type of food eaten; lack of exercise or physical activities; lifestyle etc. More and more people, including school going children, are eating food containing high amount of refined sugar, Mono Sodium Glutamate (MSG), Aspartame (Sugar free), refined oil (transfats/hydrogenated oils), highly refined food and other fast foods. All these contribute to obesity.

Obesity and Overweight has negative effects on the health of a person. It is clinically associated with high level of Insulin, high blood glucose, hypertension, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, an increased insulin resistance, high CRP levels, high homocysteine levels, high uric acid, high leptin and low antioxidant levels. There is also high cardiovascular disease rates, early death, poor quality life, increased in oxidative stress and increased levels of free radicals, high cancer rates, lowered immune system, increased inflammation in the body, higher rates of depression and other psychological problems in the obesed person.

Overweight and Obesity are two important risk factors for type 2 diabetes. It complicates the management of type2 diabetes. Therefore, lifestyle modification by reducing energy (carbohydrates) intake and increasing physical activities are some key principal treatments for overweight and Obese Patients, especially type 2 diabetes.

HOW TO MAINTAIN THE HEALTHY BODY WEIGHT
Eat a maximum of only 20% or less fat calories in your food. Meat, poultry, eggs and dairy products are basically high in fat and therefore, high in calories. So, they should be consumed minimally. Go for whole grains and beans which are low in fat and calories. Vegetable and fruits are the lowest in calories. But for those suffering from diabetes, it is good to consume very less fruit, as they contain high amount of fruit sugar called fructose.

The regular consumption of large bowl of fresh organic vegetable salad is very helpful in reducing body weight and has many other beneficial effects. It also helps in keeping your body towards an ALKALINE state, in which disease find hard to thrive.

Regular exercise is important for all. But for diabetics it is a MUST. It burns off blood glucose. As one exercise regularly, blood pressure , cholesterol and triglyceride levels will fall, lose body weight, and blood glucose level will be lowered.
